My Honor Is My Loyalty

A Novel of War in the East During World War II

From the battlefields of the Eastern Front to the mountains of the Balkans, this novel follows one young German soldier as he is drawn into a war he does not understand and a cause he believes is honorable.

What begins as loyalty slowly becomes something far more dangerous. As the war turns brutal and the truth becomes impossible to ignore, he is forced to confront the cost of blind obedience, the weight of his choices, and the man he has become.

More About Barry J. Klazura

Barry J. Klazura studied Political Science at Loyola University Chicago, where he focused on guerrilla warfare and totalitarianism. He spent years researching World War II and speaking directly with former Waffen-SS officers and enlisted men to bring historical accuracy to his work. Rather than romanticizing war, Klazura examines how ordinary people can be drawn into destructive ideologies and how loyalty, when left unquestioned, becomes dangerous. His work is rooted in the uncomfortable truth that history is shaped not only by leaders, but by the people who choose to follow them.

Years of Historical Research

Barry spent years studying World War II, anti-partisan warfare, and the rise of totalitarian regimes to create a story grounded in historical detail rather than fiction alone.

Rare Firsthand Sources

More Than a War Novel

Barry’s writing asks difficult questions about morality, loyalty, and whether a person can ever escape the choices of their past.

About the Book

My Honor Is My Loyalty

My Honor Is My Loyalty: War in the East is a World War II historical novel that follows a young German soldier drawn into the Waffen-SS by patriotism, ambition, and blind faith in the regime he serves.

As the war spreads across the Eastern Front and the Balkans, he is forced to face the brutality of anti-partisan warfare, the horrors committed in the name of loyalty, and the slow collapse of everything he once believed. What begins as a story of devotion to country becomes a painful reckoning with guilt, memory, and the cost of following the wrong cause.

Based on Real History

Why Readers Can’t Forget This Book

Readers remember this book because it does not glorify war. It shows how loyalty can become dangerous and how one man must live with the consequences of his beliefs and actions.

If you are like most Americans, myself included, you view WWII through the lenses of the war in Western Europe, and the Pacific campaigns. I knew about the invasion of Poland and some of the major battles such as Leningrad, but not much more. This book fills in quite a few gaps. The author brings to the forefront not just the brutality of the SS but of those who they fought. And the cruelty inflicted on those caught in the middle. There’s an interesting end to the story but you’ll get nothing about that from me. If you’re a student of military history you won’t be disappointed. BTW, a real to life page turner.

There were times while reading this book that I had to double-check whether it was a memoir or fiction. The chapter that describes the sheer terror where, as part of a drill, the cadets had to rapidly dig a hole in hard ground deep enough to avoid being run over by tanks, was vivid. There was a lot of brutality in the book, but then it takes place fighting partisans, and that type of warfare, I imagine, is personal and gruesome. Overall, a very good read, I found it hard to put down.

I was engaged from page 1 of this book. I had to keep reminding myself that this was fiction. The research the author must have done is admirable. I was able to relate to this story on so many levels. Definitely worth a read.

Engaging, real life drama, psychologically terrifying as to the mindset engrained to commit atrocities without remorse. One can see how atrocious leftist thinking consumes one’s psyche over time and how a seemingly “normal” human being can evolve into a murderer for the cause. This is a historically accurate life and times of the development and deployment of an SS officer during the horrifying atrocities blindly committed during WWII.
